"Urgent": calling for immediate attention
July 6th, 2008
An increasing number of "Urgent Care" Centers have emerged in various communities to address injuries that require immediate attention. At Tomaino Orthopaedic Care, we will see urgent injuries without an appointment. When it comes to injuries to the hand or fingers, this usually means one may be concerned about an injured nerve or tendon, or a fracture. Better safe than sorry--if you feel numb in your fingertip or can't bend your finger make sure you seek immediate attention. If you are swollen and painful after an injury to your hand or wrist, play it safe and get an xray. Ideally, make sure that the "immediate attention" you receive is specialized and expert. This obviates any need for another referral to the specialist, and will reassure you that everything is as it should be. If there is a problem, and you require surgical intervention, ensure that it can be arranged promptly. Uncertain as to whether you should seek care "urgently"? ----try calling the Provider first.
